Since switching to Inventor 2013 I have been noticing some slowdowns that seem like they are related to the new materials and appearance library’s that have been set up at my company.
I have done some testing and everything looks right. Our department has a high end network and computers so hardware is not the issue. Currently I am only comparing our Inventor stations performance between versions 2012 vs 2013.
It would be nice if Inventor had an add-in that could run thru your Inventor stations application settings while also checking project files so it could evaluate your station for possible issues impacting performance.
This add-in could list what errors/performance improvements could be made to your Inventor station - some ideas:
Part template load time:
a) Displays what is ideal vs. what is current
b) Checks for style issues
c) Lists possible reasons for slow load
d) Gives improvement recommendations
Project file:
a) Checks materials library for errors
b) Check appearance library
c) Checks library paths
d) Lists errors in paths / recommended number of material-appearance library?
The goal of this add-in would be to equip the user with application specific performance measurables so they can modify specific settings providing them with optimal Inventor performance. No one wants to spend hours figuring these changes out and the befit to each user over the course of time would be huge. This would be similar to Webmaster tools for a website.
