Inventor Commands

There should be a feature in Autodesk Inventor where you are able to type commands that you would like to use. Similar to the feature in AutoCAD. This would be beneficial to myself, and others I'm sure, as it would reduce the amount of time the user spends searching through tabs looking for a specific command they require.

Any help on this subject or explanation as to why this is not a feature already would be great.

Thanks, Declan.

This would interfere with the use of keyboard shortcuts, which are heavily implemented in Inventor.

However, I think I would find this useful, so +1 vote from me, as long as the implementation can be turned off if you want to go back to using normal keyboard shortcuts.

If you use the command that often, you could consider assigning a hotkey for it (or using the default one if it has one).  These can be multiple characters (or even entire words), but personally I don't like the way it behaves when multiple-key shortcuts are used.

You could also try out the "Use default multi-character Command Aliases" option.

On a slightly less serious note - I believe the reason that a feature like this isn't already implemented is that the majority of Inventor users don't commute to 1985 when they drive to work in the morning Smiley Wink.  Command Line UI's went out of style a long time ago - the only major software I know of that still uses one is AutoCAD, and the only people I ever hear championing them are current or former AutoCAD users.

See secreenshot.

Use the 'Search Help & commands' input box to A) Learn the ribbon location of the command, & B) instigate the command by selecting it in the drop down (akin to the command line in AutoCAD)2019-01-28_12h14_53.png
