Hello Autodesk team,
I’d like to suggest an improvement to the 3D Route environment in Autodesk Inventor.
Currently, when creating 3D sketches for routes (pipes, tubes, or cables), the workflow is quite restrictive compared to standard 3D sketching.
It seems the only option is to right-click a point and create a single construction line segment, without access to construction geometry or typical 3D sketch tools.
This makes it difficult to plan, visualize, and control routing paths — especially in complex assemblies with multiple runs.
It would be a major improvement if the 3D Route environment allowed users to:
Use construction lines within the route sketch,
Access the full range of 3D sketch tools (dimensions, constraints, project geometry, splines, etc.),
And (bonus) constrain route geometry to a main “layout sketch” — a master 3D sketch that can drive and control multiple runs or routes simultaneously.
This kind of setup would greatly improve design consistency and flexibility, enabling a single “layout” to manage several routing paths efficiently — similar to how skeleton modeling or master sketches are used in top-down design workflows.
Adding these capabilities would make the routing tools much more powerful for users handling multi-run or parameter-driven systems.
Thank you for considering this improvement — it would make a big difference in real-world routing projects.
Kind regards,
