Improve Stress Analysis Workflow: Option to Hide or Isolate Components After Simulation

In Autodesk Inventor’s Stress Analysis environment, assemblies can be analyzed for loads and stresses, which is a powerful feature. However, after completing a simulation, reviewing the results for individual components can be challenging because other parts in the assembly obstruct the view.

Introducing an option to temporarily hide or isolate components after the simulation would significantly improve clarity and usability. This feature would allow engineers to:

  • Quickly focus on critical parts without visual interference.
  • Improve accuracy in interpreting stress results, especially in complex assemblies.
  • Streamline workflows, reducing the need for workarounds like manually suppressing components or creating separate part files.

Why this matters:
Clear visibility of stress results on individual components is essential for making informed design decisions. Without this capability, engineers spend extra time on manual adjustments, which slows down the analysis process and increases the risk of overlooking critical stress points. By enabling temporary isolation of parts, Inventor would deliver a more efficient, intuitive, and professional simulation experience.

Suggested Implementation:
Add a simple “Hide Others” or “Isolate Component” button in the Stress Analysis Results view. This would allow users to right-click a component and instantly hide all other parts, making stress visualization straightforward and efficient.

Right Click and select Visibility should work.  The ALT-V keyboard shortcut should also work.

You can also use Design View Reps in the base assembly.  Change the browser from Study to Assembly to access the Design View Reps.

Shift-Right Click gives an option to invert the selection set, then the normal visibility tools should be available.

Unfortunately it seems that this does not work in all cases. Right now i have an assembly with 2000+ parts/subassemblies. If i want to take a look at a part (in this case a screw), i select it and invert the selection and then want to hide the other parts and subassemblies, it does not let me do this. AND if i singlehandedly  select the parts around the said part and hide them, it take Inventor pretty long to do so.

Thats why I wrote this article, but thanks for your input and suggested workaround 😉
