Importing 3D annotations from step files

Importing 3D annotations from step files

We need Inventor to be able to read in the 3D annotations from step files.  The industry as a whole creates 3D annotations in the 3D models as a means to communicate critical information about the model to the end user.  Inventor currently does not read in the 3D annotations.

Attached is a step file that has simple 3D annotation that does not come in when imported into Inventor.  Our reseller, Advanced Solutions tried in Inventor 2020 and they did not show up either.

This is critical feature that needs to be implemented.

Thanks for your feedback, Inventor 2019.1 support to import graphical PMI data from STEP 242 file. If you generate the STEP file by using Inventor, ensure AP242 is selected in the option dialogue. If the STEP file was provided by your suppliers, ask them to export AP242 format, it should have similar settings in other CAD tools.

Thanks for the feedback.  The file that I sent with my original post has 3D annotation in the file.  When I import into Siemens NX 12.0 I was able to see the annotation.  Inventor 2018, 2019 and 2020 did not read in the annotation.

Hello,

We have Inventor 2023 and anyway when I export to STEP format 242 with 3D notes, and when i import to new part or assembly I do not see 3D notes anyway.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
