Have same part in an assembly - some as reference and some in bom / p-list.

I'm adding to an existing built project. Unistrut strongarms are existing and some need adding. i'd like to add all the existing stuff to parts list and some as a referenc in the same assembly without marking them all reference. I also would not have to create a new reference model as a work around.

the hierarchy of the assembly means they are on the same build level.

To use a NOT reference part as reference but only sometimes do this:

part > tools > document settings > Bill of materials > default bom structure -> NOT reference (usually "normal")
same as
BOM > Bom structure -> NOT reference (usually "normal")

then only for the reference instances in an assembly:
assembly > right click part > bom structure -> reference (only applies to that particular instance in that assembly, not a property of part itself)

As @peter.roman explained, this already exists.  But to make use of it, you have to understand that there are actually two "Reference" settings, not just one.

  • If you set the part as Reference in the assembly BOM window (or in its Document Settings BOM tab), you are establishing a default.
  • If you right-click the part and go to BOM Structure-Reference, you are overriding the BOM setting for just that instance.

None of the other BOM settings have an equivalent to this "Override" functionality.  It is a behavior unique to the Reference structure.
