Fix projections of Detail views

Fix projections of Detail views

The following image shows what's wrong with projections of Detail views in a drawing:

This should be corrected so that cut lines from the detail's boundary aren't projected, and the actual cut lines through the part are made jagged to indicate the part continues.

The same issue exists with partial section views.  Currently in both situations I end up going to an extra step of using a Crop to get the edges to look "broken."  It would be nice if this could be done automatically.

When the edges don't appear broken, they can easily be mistaken as the edge of the part. It is even possible to create a linear dimension from this false edge!

I could see this being very useful to integrate, because it would potentially save a lot of confusion or cost on certain types of machined parts where there are a lot of features.

Sometimes I just Hide the lines at the ends of cut so it's possible to see this is not the end of the item. I am not saing that is the best way, but deffinitely the simple one.

Hello,

I would like to share more details on our Beta.

Also included in this is not showing the projection of the detail cut lines. Showing the edges of all the jaggies clutters the view and makes it harder to identify the actual edges. I often go to a smooth outline to remove all the extraneous lines. The suggestion here would eliminate this issue and properly delineate the cut edges.

This behavior should apply to all cut lines/sections. Some legitimate lines are not able to be dimensioned.

My suggestion is not drawing any type of line where there is nothing to be drawn.
Those jagged lines show nothing real, and in the case the detail "outline" is very close or tangent to an edge/side of the part, the jagged line could lie out of the part.

Using the image in the initial post:

And the same (IMHO) should apply to the "virtual" lines drawn when a view is cropped.

Drawing lines where parts (or assemblies) have no feature is very confusing.

Hi,

I always did some cropping to get this problems fixed, but it would be much better to have a real working solution from within Inventor!

In some cases it might be usefull to get the uncropped projected view....

So maybe it would be possible to add a check box (which is checked by default) to crop / uncrop projected view.

This Idea is great, I also would like to see maybe one day inventor be able to make sections (brakes) in pipes like attached image.

Hello @l.borba, that request (Idea) is being tracked here: Pipe Section. Be sure to cast a vote for it.
