Fix Flexible assemblies !!

 

I will not wright in here what exactly this problem is about. It is extensively described in here, it is enough to say they simply are not usable

I just gave kudos to the new idea suggestion on flexible parts, such as webbing, straps, rope, cable etc. Flexible Parts

 

This type of functionality would make good use of constraints that can have a specified range/min-max values without being driven, for circumstances such as constraining a rigid buckle to a flexible strap part, or constraining a flexible strap around an object in a 'form-fitting' manner. I envision a scenario where I apply a flexible constraint, then flex the part or assembly to see a range of allowable motion within those constraint limits without having to manually change the constraint value in increments or driving the constraint. 

 

It would also allow on-the-fly adjustment of part or assembly geometry without having to change a constraint's value in the browser - just set the constraint limit like you would a tolerance, set a min-max value, and it would allow the constrained parts to move within those limits accordingly.

Yes, I cannot belive that this software seems to have not improved in the flexibility area for over a decade.

 

Freedom of movement in modelling will become the forefront of design. Computers need to be utilised to achieve better usability.

Driven contraints are the best way to get a chain to move?? Please...

Hello,

 

we are having this problem a lot and it is costing me a lot of money.  As we are desinging machines, we are using a lot of cylinders, linear axes etc and for this, you need the flexible assemblies a lot.  Please find a solution for this.

Problems with flexibility are widely known.

Lately Autodesk published article (link) where users are advices to avoid using flexibility.

Please instead advising us to stop using it, FIX it instead finally.

it sucks that even though you give sub-assemblies constraints. When in the top assembly some of those constraints doen't seem to work when in some positions. 

Also when a lot of errors when making cilinders flexibel

Until Autodesk fixes this issue, the only solution I've found is to use iAssemblies with excluded constraints and/or modified parameters that drive constraints.  This is not an option if you want to use dynamic simulation or drive your constraints to show subassemblies animating, but if you only need to show your subassemblies in a few discrete positions, this has worked for me every time.  I'm still usually able to use flexibility at the top level of simple subassemblies (though a lot of the time my flexible subs still pretend to have "sick" constraints until I Rebuild All), but as soon as anything with flexibility needs to get nested more than one level deep, I always create an iAssembly for it instead.
