Extruding tube or faces with internal holes or cutouts

I design products made from square, rectangular, and round steel tubing in various sizes and thicknesses. When modeling, I draw the profile of the tube size and typically extrude the length I need represented. Unfortunately, every time I draw the profile of the tube and then use the offset tool to create the thickness I need, Inventor defaults to only allow me to extrude the interior portion of the tube or the entire section (not the tube profile). Inventor forces me to zoom in or out and then mouse over the tube profile to select it to extrude. Allowing me to choose any option but the one I want is annoying. I know it doesn't take more than a second or two to zoom in or out and then mouse over the sketch to get to select the profile I need but doing this multiple times really gets on my nerves. Why even allow me to extrude the entire profile if I have an offset or holes/slots drawn on the same sketch. If I needed the entire surface extruded, why would I have bothered to draw the other features?

It's possible. You need to hover the cursor near the target profile, right-click and select "Select another" / Ctrl+A (or wait until the list appears automatically - the reaction time can be changed in the program settings).

There are many more uses for multiple contours in a sketch than just your own profile design, and most of them don't exclude the selection of an entire area - a multi-step shaft designed from a single sketch; a box designed from two rectangles in a shared sketch; complex bodies based on descriptive geometry with cutouts, and much, much more.
Inventor is a nearly universal software and the tools are tailored to different industries and jobs, not just to your tasks.
