Export and Import Materials Library with Excel

I would like to export or import my custom material library.

I add materials to our custom material library, including the appropriate tensile strength, yield strength, and density. If I could export the material list I could easily verify that they are correct.

The current method of editing the material library is cumbersome and slow, especially if you need to add ~100 new materials.  It took me 2 hours just to change all of the existing Inventor material names to all caps.  Yes, some dinosaurs still require that.

I'm really surprised there isn't more demand for this. Anyone trying to automate CNC programming or panel optimization will require matching material databases. If you use a large amount of materials this will be a real pain.

Not sure yet if this is available through the Vault but I would love to be able to store material information as Vault items so:

a) I can update them in a central location and ensure all MEngs are referencing a single source of truth,

b) materials can be queried in 'where used' searches

c) I can export the materials library through a report run from the Vault

d) coatings can be applied to a part (or assembly) and I can track the processes and associated costs as part of our overall cost management.

Marty
