Inventor does not allow model annotations (PMI) to be inherited or reused when a part is created using Derive. This is a limitation for top‑down and skeleton‑based workflows, where geometry is intentionally split across multiple parts.
Typical structure:
• Skeleton part (layout, parameters)
• Design part (solid geometry derived from skeleton)
• Manufacturing or simplified part (derived again)
Today, PMI must be recreated and cannot follow the geometry into downstream derived parts. This breaks Model‑Based Definition workflows and forces drawing workarounds (overlay views, duplicate annotations, or referencing upstream models).
---
Requested Enhancement
Provide an option to:
• Include PMI when deriving a part, or
• Reference upstream PMI in derived parts (associative or read‑only)
Similar to how parameters and work features are handled.
---
Why This Matters
• Skeleton modeling is a recommended Inventor practice
• PMI is central to MBD and drawing reduction
• Current behavior causes duplicated work and poor associativity
Supporting PMI reuse in derived parts would significantly improve MBD adoption and top‑down design workflows.
