Edit Referenced iProperties from Title Block

Edit Referenced iProperties from Title Block

Currently, if a Title Block references iProperties of the drawing file and/or the model file, the user often has to do some digging to figure out where to go to update the information if it is empty or needs updating. Most often this gets discovered at the drawing level, and the then user must open the model again, etc.

It would be great if we could right-click on the Title Block and update the referenced iProperties (where ever they are). Something similar to these images, but be able to actually edit the fields that iproperties.

Note that this button takes you to the properties of the drawing only, and it takes you to all iProperties.

Great idea. I think it would be cool if as we hover over the Title Block, each field which can be changed highlights as we hover over it. So, for example, if it's a prompted entry field, the entire field highlights, and we can click it to edit the text right there in the Title Block. If it's a non-prompted-entry field comprising a few inserted iProperties, say for example "<Description> (<Stock Number>)", then we can hover over the text for each respective iProperty, and clicking it will bring up a popup that tells us where the iProperty came from (Drawing, Sheet, or first-view Component) and lets us edit that iProperty directly.

And if the prompted-entry field or inserted iProperty happens to be blank, then as we hover, its placeholder will be represented by a small, empty highlighted rectangle, indicating that there is a field there which is empty.

Maybe these field highlights could be a different color for iProperties and Prompted Entry fields so we can easily tell which are which. And maybe they could be displayed constantly (not just on mouse over) so we can quickly find and fill in all fields.

Basically, it might look something like this:

I think it would also be nice to have a dialog box/list like in the initial post, so that I can quickly tab through and enter each field in an order that makes sense. But it would also be great to be able to edit the fields directly from the title block like this.

Inventor 2022: I'd still like to see the feature that DRoam suggested. Double-click any data field in the title block to open up the Edit Property Fields dialog.

WYSIWYG - Click the object that you see to change the object that you see. Don't go hunting for what controls the object in iProperties, settings, browser tree or anywhere else.

Tables, notes, dimensions and callouts already behave like this. Be consistent.
