Dual Dimensions in model sketch
Hello,
I work primarely in Inventor (2011) and occasionally in SolidWorks. And my work is 50% Imperial, 50% Metric. SW has the ability to show dual dimensions in the model sketch. I would like to see the same availability in Inventor.
Inventor already has this functionality, but I am un-sure when it was added. You have to add a dimension style in Styles Editor to show in [mm] or mm [in]. The screaming problem with this is its current functionality of showing duplicate information as well. See
FYI, @Ktomberlin, @Anonymous specifically mentioned model sketch, not Drawing. He's talking about the Sketch environment when when creating a Sketch in a Part. He'd like to be able to see model dimensions in both metric and imperial units. Inventor currently can't do this. This would almost require being able to define a Secondary unit in the Tools --> Document Settings --> Units area.
This is not always needed, but in some circumstances would be very helpful. For example, if I need a hole to accomodate a bearing, it will be dimensioned in metric, but the rest of the part will be imperial; that's just how our machines are calibrated.
This is of great interest to me as well. In concerns of international collaboration, it would be a Godsend! While only ONE unit of measure may control the IPT, Inventor currently recognizes suffix modifiers for entered dimensions ( in, mm, ft etc.). Having the ability to SEE the dimensions in "familiar" units AND (with the use of suffixes) being able to EDIT in like "familiar" units would be FANTASTIC!
This makes sense to me, and seems like it would be relatively simple to implement, as it's only displaying a second value alongside the first. Though, I'm not a developer, so I don't know the challenges involved. But, we can already input various units, and Inventor interprets them for us.
