Direct editing of dimensions

I have worked with Autodesk Inventor and Solidworks, I prefer Inventor, but there's one thing I miss from Solidworks, the direct editing of dimensions by double clicking on a feature. Then you can edit the dimension, without going in the part, then going in the function or sketch which takes a large amount of time with Inventor.

Autodesk removed this functionality from Inventor 10-12 years ago.  I miss it.

PTC Creo has the same functionality.  I use it frequently.

Also familiar with SWX and PRO/E, and also prefer Inventor.  The functionality in Inventor is done with the "Show Dimensions" command.  You can right-click any feature in the browser, and select "Show Dimensions".  All relevant dimensions for that feature will show up on display.  You can then double-click them to edit, without having to enter a sketch or redefine a feature.

Note:  When you edit parameters in this manner, Inventor will pause updates.  This is so you can edit several dimensions without waiting for regen.  Once you are done editing, click the lightning bolt and Inventor will kick regen back into gear.

But the advantage with solidworks is I don't have to find the part or the feature in the model tree, I just need to double click on a relevant face or hole to edit it, so it's much faster.

Actually that also works in Inventor. Except you single click a face and choose your edit function from the popup toolbar. So the same amount of clicks (2 single vs. 1 double) gets you to the same edit capability.

Everybody is allowed their preference re CAD software, and I’ve worked on SWX as well. Inventor is not an attempt to clone SWX, and so making requests of Autodesk to change things to be like SWX will never be welcome from the developers (from experience). This was never meant to start a “my brand is better than your brand” debate. I was just answering a question in an attempt to assist.

Oh I never noticed they added this popup, seems like it could also work well indeed.

Thanks for the advice.

Best regards,
