Design Assistant - Resolve "File not found"

Design Assistant - Resolve "File not found"

If a part is called by 2 assemblies Design Assistant may be used to open assembly 1 and rename the part. When Design Assistant opens assembly 2 to make the same change Design Assistant reports "File not found". Assembly 2 is loaded and all found files are displayed. The unresolved file is not listed at all so it is not possible to resolve the disconnect within Design Assistant.

It is necessary to close D.A., open Inventor, open Assembly 2 and resolve the missing file when prompted there.

It should be possible to do this entirely within Design Assistant.

Please either

1) List the unresolved file in Design Assistant and mark it in some way so that the user can Replace the file.

2) Open the resolve link dialog when the assembly is opened within Design Assistant, as is done when it is opened within Inventor.

@SEC_MECH,

This can currently be done with Design Assistant (DA) to rename a part used in multiple assemblies.

  1. In DA, open the drawing or assembly that contains the part to be renamed.
  2. Select the file to be renamed in the upper section.
  3. In the lower section, select the file types to be searched, such as assembly.
  4. Select the option, Search Subfolders.
  5. Click Find to begin searching for other designs that use that part. Found files will be shown in lower section.
  6. Perform rename steps in upper section.
  7. When you click Save, the design in the upper section and the other files found in Step 5 will (should) also be updated.

Be advised, the search process is very slow! Your current workflow to resolve references may be faster than the Find capabilities in DA.

Also, once the Find is initiated, there does not seem to be a way to cancel the search. No ESC or Stop option  is available.

These tasks really need improvement.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Jerry
