It would be great if when you mirror an assembly and inventor creates mirrored parts if those parts had the option do be derived parts. That would allow the ability to update the original and not have to either redo the mirror or make the same edit on the mirrored part.
On the Manage Tab in a new part file, click on the Derive button of the Insert Panel
There is an "Options" tab and in there at the bottom right there is a tick box and drop down selection that allows you to mirror via any of the Origin Planes.
Be aware that you will need to update the mirrored part to reflect any changes you made in the original assembly and that all changes will be made in the mirrored part when you do so.
I think this is what you were asking, and apologies if I've misunderstood.
Thanks jas25t, but that is not exactly what I am talking about. When you are in an assembly you can creat a mirror of multiple parts, but it creates a new mirror part that is not derived. I think adding a derive option would be great!
Doing a single derived part means you would have to rebuild the whole assembly in the mirrored version.
@jamesc, what you're asking for is already the current functionality. If you select the "Mirror" option (the green logo with the double arrows), you get precisely what you're asking for: a Derived mirrored version of your original part. If you make a change to the original part, the mirrored version will be updated.
