Demote component pattern

Demote component pattern

I would like to be able to demote a component pattern without having to delete the pattern, demote the components and turn around and pattern it again.  I have searched and found the same idea yet it has been archived and I cannot vote for it.  Most of my patterns are fasteners and I would think many companies are patterning fasteners like myself, I thought the idea would already be implemented.  If there is a solution besides deleting, demoting, and re-pattern I have not yet found it.

demoting a component pattern without having to delete the pattern would be a very nice tool to have in the toolbox.

This is currently a feature in 2017 at least. If you right click the component pattern go to component and then demote... The issue shown below comes when you have a part or an assembly that you have used to dictate the direction of the pattern but did not demote it. This is easily fixed by using an axis to dictate the direction...

This would work for a new assembly, however it won't allow to demote to an existing assembly.

You could demote to a new assembly. Then move that assembly into the existing assembly and promote.

Many thanks for posting the idea to us, and it ([INVGEN-41777]) has been implemented in Inventor 2022.

@Yijiang.Cai ,

Can you tell me which version of 2022 this was resolved in? I would assume it is 2022.3 as I can't find anything in 2022.2.2.

@estringer , this is addressed in Inventor 2022 RTM, and I can demote the component pattern using context menu "Demote". If it does not work for you, could you share the dataset or workflow with me? You can ping me at river-yijiang.cai@autodesk.com. Thanks!

@Yijiang.Cai ,

I am not familiar with the term RTM, I would assume that means the initial release? The dataset it pretty large so I would need a OneDrive link or FTP site to send it to you.

@estringer , I have sent the private email to you about the OneDrive for dataset uploading, and please check it.

Thanks,
River

Hello River,
I have uploaded the dataset to the OneDrive site. The parts that I am having issues demoting are patterned along the edges of the part in the assembly named Lvl_15. The screenshot below is the names of the parts that are patterned as well as some parts that I would like to demote with the pattered parts.

@estringer Many thanks for the quick feedback, and the dataset is available for me. The issue has been tracked as [INVGEN-65319], and will keep you updated.

@estringer

The direction of the pattern is an edge from a part that is not being demoted WITH the pattern. You cannot have references to geometry that will be ABOVE you in the assembly hierarchy.

Use a better direction.

If you demote the base plate WITH the pattern this works just fine. Does it work fine for you?

Thanks Steven Dennis investigating the issue, and get the solution here.

I cannot use it to demote sub-patterned components. Frustrating.

No, it does not support to demote the element of pattern now.
