So I work for a Manufacturing Company that builds in stages where one assembly goes into the next assembly. We typically have all of the assemblies modeled out for their stage on the floor. Once the product is complete, we've gotten multiple assemblies that go into each other. All good except we also sell adapter kits for when someone wants to upgrade but doesn't want to get a whole new machine. These adapters require the removal of certain parts to be replaced by the new ones. Our goal is to accurately model these, but it would nice if we didn't have to go back to when those parts were put in. I'd rather we take the finished assembly model, pull it and the new parts kits into a new assembly and do everything there.
Example
Assembly 1 contains three parts as listed. Assembly 2 contains Assembly 1 and two more parts. Then in Assembly 3 we want to delete Part 1 and put in two different parts.
Assembly 1
-Part 1
-Part 2
-Part 3
Assembly 2
-Assembly 1
-Part 4
-Part 5
Assembly 3
-Assembly 2
-Part 6
-Part 7
-Delete Part 1
The current set up would require that I either change Assembly 1 or replace Assembly 1 with an assembly that doesn't have the part. Thus we can't upgrade on the fly, we technically made a whole new product from the start which isn't true.
