Custom Section Marks (View Arrows)

Custom Section Marks (View Arrows)

Original Title: Custom section marks

In order to follow my company's standards, I need to draw my own section mark lines. (See attached picture.)

In AutoCAD, we had a LISP routine to automate it - there were three clicks to input points. First click gave us the starting point, the end of the line with the circle. The 2nd click gave us the other end of the line. The 3rd click decided the direction the arrow pointed. After that, it prompted us for the section label ("A") and the sheet number ("S1").

I've figured out how to make the circles with numbers with prompted entries, but don't know how to draw the line and arrows without them being a fixed predetermined length and direction in a sketched symbol.

This would need to input similar to a leader line with multiple input points, which from what I can tell, sketched symbols are a single input point.

I really don't need for it to pull in the sheet number or section label automatically - I'm fine with manually inputting them with a prompt.

Looks like it's safe to say this is another simple request being completly ignored by Autodesk... Really justifies the £1500 per person per year price tag eh?

Yes it does..I too have a customer that requires a special arrow style..would be nice if we could even create a 'NEW' style in Arrow list.

So it's been a solid 7 years and nothing has been done.

I don't in any way understand why this has not been solved.

This appears to have been a simple logical request based on the need to follow company standards. This is something all draughtsmen need to do. Why on earth would you not add this fucntionality?

It is senseless to be forced to use different company standards for different software.

I can’t help but agree but it takes votes on these things not logic….

@Anonymous dont get me started on the subject of Autodesk ignoring it's customer, Ive had many lengthy rants about it already lol!

Votes... must get votes.. again just like the Rev Cloud issue HERE  we have to get votes for this one too... and this is a related issue not sure if there is some way to combine them??

@Anonymous  @kent_wold  @RJR89 while we are voting for ideas, please go over to HERE and vote. I've submitted this a few times but it never gets any votes and it is one of the most annoying "features" in Inventor. I'm guessing not enough people here work in imperial units to care about fixing it, but I'd appreciate some votes.

We're lucky, we get to use out-of-the-box section lines.

Yes, been asking for over a decade for better support for custom view labels / section call outs and  labels and detail call outs and view labels

as1100.501 is the drafting standard inventor needs to support.

Ive also asked several times and it hasn’t grown legs ...yet

sofar we just hide all the standard crap on an invisible layer and add a bunch of custom sketch symbols so we can meet standards.

It’s total crap,  hopefully some sense will prevail before stupid-19 virus takes over.

Hi I,m a draftee working alone in my office.

I have the same problem, but would love to know how you hide all the invisible crap on an invisible layer?

You need to set up some standards in your Inventor template + drawing styles library

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2020/ENU/Inve...

Add a layer with an unnatural drawing color and set it so it doesn’t print.

Then set the object defaults in the active drafting standard for your view labels etc to use that layer by default

You then can use the stuff on the invisible / non print layer as a guide to add the sketch symbols manually to the drawings So the labels match etc

Less than ideal, 😞 but works for now...

Cheers

I just realized, I have a client that uses a custom section mark.

It would help us to be able to mimic their look. They have standards (in AutoCAD) that we try to reflect with Inventor.

The development team said there is no plan to work on this for this 2020....😞, sorry....

All we can do is put pressure on with Votes.. if you know anyone on the Forums that is affected or can come and vote this up please lobby them to do so!
All that is listened to is votes..

This is needed badly!

Also opening the sheet property so that you can add to the label the sheet where the section is shown.

We have the ability to add this for the section as to where the section is taken but not the other way.

Thank you,

Matt Schaefer

Would help make this tool be better accepted in the professional installation multi-million dollar complete system environments.

...I strongly agree.

Yes, it’s needed to meet drafting standards commonly used in plant process and offshore Oil & gas industries among others that are related to construction.
