Constraint - Mate or Flush

Constraint - Mate or Flush

Inventor should be able to automatically decide if a mate should be "Mate" or "Flush". Instead of throwing an error code saying the mate is incorrect, it should automatically switch to the other option, so inventor is satisfied. If it can automatically recognize there is an error, it can automatically update to mate or flush to fix the error.

I have multiple problems with this idea:

  • Inventor has no way to know whether it should be Flush or Mate
  • Just because it knows that there's an error doesn't mean that it knows how to fix it.
  • In many cases there could be multiple solutions to resolve the error. For example it could resolve correctly with constraint1 being Flush and constraint2 being Mate. It could still resolve correctly if they're switched around. Now what would you expect Inventor to do if they are both Flush or both Mate and give an error? Should the Flush be switched to a Mate or should the Mate be switched to a Flush?
  • Even if the error is resolved, that doesn't mean the result is correct.
