Check in as an event trigger for iLogic rules

I would very much like Vault "CHECK IN" as an event trigger for iLogic rules.

@pb When check in the file, the file is required to be saved. Could we use the event trigger "Before Save Document" here?

@inv.ideareview This idea is to get away from running iLogic every time a file is saved and only running it when checking the file in. Files get saved WAY MORE OFTEN than they get checked in. We don't want certain iLogic code running every time a file is saved.

An example for you: Say you want to turn defer updates on "Before Check In" on every drawing. iLogic code could do this automatically or prompt the user to make the change, but you wouldn't want to do this every time you saved the drawing. Inventor has the ability to remind you to save your work periodically for a reason - it can crash and take all your work away! I wouldn't want to have to see a prompt or have to turn defer updates off every time I save the file over possibly several days or weeks of work. BUT I would want this prompt when I finally check the file into the Vault.

I totally agree. We use iLogic for iProperty validation, and the most important moment to check that would be before checkin.

Now I have to bug my colleagues with MessageBoxes everytime they save (if they have invalid iProperty values).

This it totally needed.

If you calculate how many times a design is saved, and you don't need all the updates and properties checking each and every time, and multiply this with all the time while waiting for such a thing, multiply with N of users, you get pretty big numbers. And when design is finished, only once is needed to check properties, update top level mass and physical properties, and so on.  Much needed productivity upgrade!

@jbetz42, That event trigger didn't get completed in time for the Inventor 2024 release. The request for it is being tracked here: iLogic Events Trigger - Before Check in and the status is currently Accepted. Some possible solutions for that idea are currently under discussion within the NDA based Inventor Feedback/Beta community.
