Change icon of fully constraint parts in assembly

Change icon of fully constraint parts in assembly

I hate to say it, but SolidWorks has different icons in the browser for fully constraint parts and parts that has some degrees of freedom left...

I would like to have that also within Inventor.

It is a usefull feature and (ex-) SolidWorks engineers ak me all the time, how in Inventor, they can easily see, if a part is fully constraint.

The "Degrees of Freedom" feature doesn't work with large assemblies. It would be nice, if you can see it in the browser.

See a suggestion how it can look in the attachment.

Hi Jimmy

Thanks for your feedback, I thought your request was very similar to below idea on icon for fully constrained component, the idea has been accepted.

We will ask you to add a representation feature to check whether the assembly is fully constrained or incomplete.

I would agree.  I've used another top level 3D modeling software for about 10 years and that is a such a beneficial feature, to see if the model is fully constrained.

I'd suggest another level, a glyph or icon in the feature tree indicating if a part is fully constrained or not.  This is a simple addition that the Inventor competition already does.

This is the most confusing thread I've ever read - It's marked as accepted 5 years ago, but the status in the responses has gone like this:

It's hard to understand that this idea was accepted since many year and I can't see change inside the newest Inventor and SP (2019.3). When we use the tool in the assembly productivity and use Degree of freedom Analysis Inventor can recognize which parts is fully constraint (0,0,0). Why its so hard to hard an icon in the browser that indicate all degres of freedom are constraint???

A certain Autodesk competitor who shall remain nameless includes a feature where an icon next to parts in the an assembly tree change when the part becomes fully constrained, allowing the user to quickly identify which parts are constrained and which are not. Please add this feature to Inventor, ideally with the added functionality that the icon could change depending on whether or not the part is fully constrained, part of a contact set, not constrained, etc.

Thank you.

I was looking for information on the same type of constraint indicator and found this post back from 2013 for the same thing.

It was accepted back then but was never implemented?  Here we are 6 years later and still wanting the constraint indicator.  It is a really good idea and should have been implemented by now.

It should be a lot of help if parts & subassemblies in the browser had another icon if not fully constrained. For example:

How many votes do we need?  I sure hope this get's addressed in some of the upcoming versions.
