Change default "Convert to Weldment" material

Hi.

I want to change default material when I use the "Convert to Weldment" button, on assemblies.

In my case, I never use aluminium weldment, so default is wrong 100% of times. It makes no sence not to allow to change default setting.

Please add the ability to change it.

Maybe with some internal API code?

I agree.  My situation is similar - we have done some aluminum weldments, but I can think of only about 2-3 projects in 10 years where it happened.  The rest of the time it has all been steel, and this setting had to be changed on every one of them that was converted to a weldment.

It seems to me that the simplest thing would be to remove the hard-coded default that seems to be in place, and instead let the weldment conversion process look to the weldment.iam template file for its setting defaults.  You can already use the material setting in this template to control the default material for creating a weldment.  However, that setting in the template doesn't govern anything when a normal assembly is converted to weldment instead.

Obviously, the most efficient thing would be to always create weldment assemblies with the weldment template.  But mistakes happen, or assembly structures change, and sometimes designs can change from being bolted-together assemblies to a welded one.  Things happen, and that's why the Convert to Weldment option is available in the first place.  It would help a lot to give us the same control over these converted weldments that we already have over assemblies initially created as weldments.

I feel ignored by autodesk.

Why such a behaviour in convert to weldment? Why not a fix?

I agree on this default.   This applies to many pop ups such as threaded holes in drawings where I would like the "default" to be with tap drill selected.   Another is the chamfer callout which should be easily configured to not include the text and always default to a selected precision for each element.   I have an old CNC lathe with a "do event" capability and every pop-up can be configured and then selected to be the "default" for future selections with a final check box.   Another example would be the pop-up for the hole command where the selecting a threaded hole would automatically default to add a 90 degree chamfer on the entry (equal to the thread nom size).

I would also like to set the defaults, that being the Standard, Weld bead material and BOM structure

I think its time to push this topic.

As CAD-Administrator we should at least able to change the default weld material when using "Convert to Weldment".

So many years this wish is up now...

I agree.

Autodesk gives us all sorts of useless features and upgrades but the day to day things we need to work faster gets ignored.
This really puts us under pressure to look for other software that has what we need and use daily

Now the default standard & BOM structure settings are defined in weldment template. But weld bead material setting can't be defined, which has been tracked as [INVGEN-77483]. Many thanks!
