Centre view about sketch rather than part origin!

Centre view about sketch rather than part origin!

So I've found this more and more recently and it's annoying!

When I'm creating a sketch within a part that's being made in context of an assembly (with some borrowed bodies etc), the view centres about the part origin on creation of each new sketch rather than about the centre of the newly created sketch!

Surely this should be an option in the settings? If you centre about the sketch they you'll ALWAYS be looking at the right thing, not like this....

Why the hell would I want to be looking over there My Inventor?? EH? Please fix this 😄 Thanks.

This effects all parts, even standard ones that aren't in context with assemblies. IMO the view should always centre about the newly created sketch, it really just doesn't make sense for it not to!

I know this isn't the solution to your problem, but when I got annoyed at this 'function' I found this setting:

Then you can hit PageUp (Look At) if you really want to look at the plane you're sketching on.

I found I liked finding my view, creating the sketch and sketching with that view quite helpful some times.

It might ease your pain until this gets implemented.

Hey thanks,

Yes I have that setting switched on, I'll try turning it off and manually looking at but I have a feeling that when you look at it still centres about the part and not the centre of the sketch....

I couldn't agree more.  Solidworks does it correctly.  It centers the surface selected for the new sketch.  I make multi bodied parts a lot and it is very annoying when I am working on a body that is far from the origin and Inventor constantly centers the view about the origin.

I am turning off the "Look at sketch plane..." and I also edited the ViewCube Options, deselected the "Fit-to-View on view change".  This eliminates the need to select the face again when using the "Look at" command.
