BUG in Export PDF from drawing

BUG in Export PDF from drawing

I have tried to export a PDF from a drawing (IDW) several times and Inventor has crashed in an uncontrolled way.

It crashed without showing any error message or even the bug typical reporting window.

Then exported to DWG and got a proper error message and no crash.

The problems seems to be connected to some write permissions to the folder where the exported files are saved to.

This could be also a problem on its own as the folder is in the active project and some other files are saved there.

I would say the error/exception handling on the code for PDF export is not as good as the one for DWG export.

By the way, never experienced anything similar until recently updated to 2021 version.

I have been able to make a PDF by printing to the Adobe PDF printer (to the same folder that was making problems with Inventor).

Problem solved.

It looks like the new Win 10 feature "Ransomware Protection" is the reason behind the problem.

Probably coupled with OneDrive and (local) account configuration.

Now I have REINSTALLED Win 10 getting rid of everything (including a disk reformat) and followed Microsoft preferred options (account linked to Microsoft (Office 365) account, start session with PIN, OneDrive with the same account) and it works. Even some old problems with other software and Excel not working together properly have been solved with this.

Also important, with this new ransomware protection you will need to allow programs to access some key folders (including My Documents) … so be prepared to do some extra configuration while installing software and running apps for the first time.

It's been more than one day of work lost (invested?) in this fix, I hope it is worth.

NOTE: If you decide to reinstall Windows, do not forget making a copy of all your data.
