Bring back Autodesk Desktop App & remove Autodesk Access

Autodesk Desktop App was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better compared to Autodesk Access and it actually worked. Autodesk Access does not show me all the latest updates, only some useless ones. I now need to go check online from time to time to see if there are any new updates for Vault, Inventor, Navisworks, Recap and Autocad. Super annoying. New workflow: Open all applications, check build number / versions, go online and search for the correct applications and see if there are any updates VS open Desktop App and immediately see only the programs that is currently installed and view available updates. Feels like we are moving backwards Autodesk... Let's bring back the Desktop App and get rid of Autodesk Access and continue moving forwards in life.

i totally agree. checking for updates is much more complicated and time-consuming

I regularly check Autodesk Access for updates and mostly find Licensing Service or Navisworks updates. I use Inventor Pro and Vault Pro daily for work, and these almost never shown in the app when updates are available. As OP mentioned, it is now a multi-step process involving finding the update/release version and cross-checking it against either the Control Panel version or version info within the program.

This is frustrating on 2 accounts:

  • I can't quickly check and apply updates for software (Inventor Pro and Vault Pro Client specifically).
  • I must now jump between 3 applications to update; first check if an update exists in the Autodesk Access app (only to find it doesn't, but that's no guarantee an update doesn't exist), then access the web page to check for updates, and then find my running version via Control Panel/app preferences. Finally, I must compare these two versions against each other, then download and install any updates.

As OP mentioned, we are regressing here. This wastes my time, and that of my clients. Do better, Autodesk.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback.  I'm just guessing, but I think that you're likely not logged in to Access.  It uses the same login process as 2024 products, and if you don't have any of those installed, maybe you just haven't logged in yet.  Also, check out the FAQs for more information on what Access shows.

Hi Danny, thank you for your reply. As far as I'm aware, I switched to Autodesk Access very early on. I'm not sure when exactly, but perhaps when I upgraded from 2022 to 2023 products. As you can see below, I am logged in to Autodesk Access. Please note - there are no meaningful updates shown here as I already have them installed. However, at least the last 2 Inventor updates haven't shown here and required manually checking using the method shown in the screenshot.

I reiterate - even if no updates are available, it would be INCREDIBLY helpful to see the installed versions of all products to determine 1. The current installed version, and 2. Quickly cross check against the website instead of needing to cross check using 3 windows.
