Borders on feature patterns

Borders on feature patterns

We often make custom laser cut guard panels.  To do so we have to create the hole pattern we use laid out on the panel as we want to see it so we can get a cut path for the laser.  Very rarely do we create a panel that is just square with no other cutouts.  Many time these have cuts holes and odd shapes to the panels.  So when we create a hole pattern for the mesh guard we want we need to suppress many many holes to set it up while keeping a  border around the pattern.  It woul be nice if there was some way that we could say create this patten on this face keeping at least 1" of space between the edges of the part and the hole pattern.  See the attached pic for a simple guard I am currently drawing.  Anyone else think this might be useful?

It does indeed look like S_Verbeek's post is a duplicate. Here is the original posting of this request: Borders on feature patterns.

Please add the ability to limit a pattern by a boundary such as a sketch loop.

Creating the pattern below, which is triangular (or hexagonal), creates a hexagon layout that overlaps the desired boundary in places. In this case the boundary would be a circle. The same would be true of square patterns or others.

In the example below I actually had to create multiple patterns. Being able to have the pattern stop at a boundary would save a lot of time.

I could also have made 1 large hexagonal pattern and suppressed the elements that fall outside the boundary manually, but again this would be very time consuming finding and selecting the occurrences that were not needed.

The example at the link below shows how this works with an iLogic rule someone has written. It would be nice to build it into the pattern feature for those who are not comfortable with iLogic.

@brotherkennyh, this has been requested before and the original idea already has a good deal of support behind it (currently 129 votes), and is currently Under Review by Autodesk. Please consider voting for the original to help get this suggestion recognized: Borders on feature patterns. Thanks!

this idea could really help me a lot in my daly work, so I have voted for it.

I have a question, you might have the ability to awenser for me:

I have never really used Ilogic, and have downloaded the pattern file at the Link. now I don´t really know how to use it in a new file.

do I make my new part, put holes in it, and make a boundery, then somehow import the Ilogic, den click the boundery, and last click run?

Not sure if the staggering of the seed will be considered. This is a very useful feature when designing venting patterns.

Will also be nice to have a seed element (circle, hexagon) available inside the command.

I like a lot the idea.  Also I want to add some improvements to this idea.  It should be pre-defined ways to cover any area or surface limited by an sketch or a projection of it.  I put some examples to make more clear this idea.

So, basically, 'we'll think about it'?

I've just run into this issue in the last couple days as well. The mod the machine link works, to an extent. If i expand the pattern to a 3mm hole that is 5mm apart (not sure on the numbers, but a pattern of about 33x33 holes) - it takes that bit of ilogic 15+ MINUTES to accomplish the feat. Meanwhile, i have access to a seat of Solidworks as well that has the pattern fill feature and, literally, it takes 1-2 SECONDS, for the same pattern.

Hi,

This feature is a must for Inventor.

It amazes me how it is not there after 20 years of development,

Probably we will get in Fusion 360 next month but for the INV Team it is in the back log.

Thanks

Dan

Solid, Proengineer have been doing maybe for 10 years, but Inventor still same it's first pattern. When this feature will standard.

The pattern function is so bad that I sometimes need to make a pattern in autocad ( Were I  can select and delete in patterns) then copy and paste it into Inventor, to save time.

Our company moved from Creo to Inventor for the building and piping options of the Autodesk Suites.  In the vast majority of ways I far prefer Inventor over Creo but one big shortfall, unless I'm missing something, is the type of pattern options allowed.  In Creo you can do diamond and fill patterns.  To create the type of part shown in the attached image is far more cumbersome in Inventor over Creo.

We've done patterns along curves and patterned from there. However, in Creo you can just make the fill regions and as the regions are adjusted the pattern will adjust from there.

All other major CAD packages have this functionality. This is overdue.

Hi, still there is so more to learn from Solidworks. There is "Fill pattern" function for fast perforation with boundary function. For now Inventor doesn't have anything like this, why? Now, HOPE, is our only option. e.x. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz5ATYHlCXg

Improve possibility Pattern. Customers complain about the pattern function. The customer switched to Inventor with Creo and says improve the pattern.

Not soon will be the Inventor has a black bar after a black theme. They don't give a **** about engineers. The main thing is the beautiful interface of the program and not your good wishes.  😋
I look at their work over the past two years - neither laugh nor cry ...  😟
