Basic Efficiency Improvements

Hello,

My company have just switched over to Inventor and are still in the transitional stage. I have a couple of simple improvements which would greatly increase the day to day efficiency when modelling and assembling in Inventor.

I really hope the Autodesk development team takes this advice very seriously as I have taken the time out of my day to put this together.

1 - When placing parts into an assembly, I should be able to quickly select a part that I have currently open. Searching through a minefield of folders to select a part that is already open in another window is not acceptable. Copying and pasting from tiled windows is the quickest way to do this however I expect a better solution.

2 - When placing a non-ipart into an assembly, and then change it to an ipart later on, the configurations are visible in the assembly browser but do not allow you to 'Change Component'. Ever. even when you 'Update' or 'Global Update' the assembly. Deleting or replacing the component and then re-constraining the component is the only way to utilise the ipart configurations. I can’t imagine a bigger time waster especially when there is multiple instances of that part within a large assembly and each instance has multiple constraints. I have spend full 8 hour days re-constraining because of this error. Unbelievably disappointing.

3 - When copying a part in an assembly, I would like to select the part I want to copy and see a option to place multiple instances of this part. Currently I can only copy and paste one at a time. What if I need 20 of these parts? Current solution - place each part one at a time. Please ask yourselves whether you think this is acceptable.

When people ask my preference on 3D CAD software, I warn them of these issues with Inventor.

Autodesk have a tool for almost every feature or workflow you could possibly imagine but lack in the most basic of areas. Please take this as a critical evaluation to help improve your product.

Hello Adrian,

I think all functions are implemeted since many years:

1. go to your open part. Do a right klick in the part browser - copy
   Go back to your assembly Ctrl-V or right klick paste - Donne

2. Yust wenn using the replace part function the window for selecting the iPart type will apears.
  For further change the iPart table is available.

3. what ever part or IAM you have copied into your clip board, just hit Ctrl-V as many times as often you need the part. (move the mouse a little so not all parts are over each other)

By the way: do you use a open Windows Explorer and simply drag a part or assembly into your assembly?

It's fast if you need more parts located in the same folder.
