Attach Text to Balloon, Annotation or View

Attach Text to Balloon, Annotation or View

This is something the really bugs me about Inventor drawings. PTC Creo/Proe has the ability to be able to simply create a text item then right click it and choose either 'Relate to View' or 'Relate to Object'. This functionality is great because it allows you to create text in reference to views or balloons etc really quickly and easily. It has also been around for years!

I know in Inventor there are some work arounds for this. Like creating a leader note then deleting the leader or creating a sketch in reference to the view etc but for me these work arounds are not exactly good working solutions. Surely something like what Creo has should be able to be implemented??

He has a point, if a view is selected then the text box is created it should attach the text box to the view that is selected. if no view is selected it defaults to having no attached view

Have to laugh at the comments "Just add a leader, then delete it." This is one of those non-intuitive things that makes new users bitch about moving to Inventor.

The entire goal of efficiency should be fewer step. The original requester has it right. Add an "Associate to View" right-click context menu selection for text, sketch symbols, etc.

Would be nice to have the function like said in the post of the threadowner!

Dragging this one up again, loads of votes but Autodesk not even considering it still!!!

Great idea this should be added. I think as others have suggested we still want both options to have it both linked to a view and also just positioned on a sheet. I think when creating the text one of the prompts could simply be "Pick drawing view or sheet to create text" If you pick a view it related and stays with that if you just pick a blank space on the sheet it stays their on the sheet regardless of where you move the drawing view.

I know we have a couple of workarounds for this but feels like it should be out of the box and actually has no downsides to implementing this feature.

I also agree with the prompt to attach a text to the view or the sheet (the same sort of prompt that comes with creating a sketch).

The work-around of removing the leader from a leader text object is just that, a work around.  The real weakness of this shows when the drafting standards have a line under the text of the leader text object.  This line doesn't go away when the leader is removed.  Since I'm using client standards I am unable to change them.  It is also a counterintuitive was of creating text that is attached to a view.  The first way any experienced user is going to add text is with the text tool.  Only after this, usually by accident, will the user find out that the text is not attached to the view...a good way to end up dissatisfied with Inventor (which is, largely speaking, a good program).
