Attach PDF Datasheet to .ipt, .iam. iaw/dwg in Inventor iProperties

I understand that you can attach a pdf to a part file through the Vault client and manage using revisions. It would be great to be able to do the same from inside Inventor so that the files both check-in together when the workflow is performed. Also, if the user is not using a Vault, it would be great if the file could be attached and/or embedded to the part file/assembly/drawing etc. Maybee an attachment option in iProperties dialogue box or an embedded feature option like the workflow used for adding images to a face prior to creating a decal but of course for use with a datasheet in PDF format.

This can be done in Inventor by going to the Manage tab > Insert Object button.

Then in the Insert Object dialog box:

• select the Create From File option
• ensure the Link check box in NOT selected
• then click the Browse button and locate and select the PDF
• then click the OK button
  • For drawings you can click on screen to place the embedded object or just press ESC on the keyboard if no on page object is desired. if you press ESC the object is created but not visible
  • For parts or assemblies there is no placement step

The result for all file types will be a 3rd party folder in the browser with the embedded PDF file named Embedding 1 or 2, etc.

You can rename the link from Embedding to something meaningful, if you'd like. And you can right click on it and choose Edit to view the file

My Reasoning: It would be nice to quickly generate a BOM column entry for attached data sheets, for use with embedded documents (to give an open on selection style just like the open part from BOM entry option made available in recent years).
