assembly viewer

assembly viewer

A viewer for Inventor assemblies with the ability to move or remove the individual parts. e.g. a car made up of chassis part, doors, body, wheels, etc. and you can explode the assembly of parts part by part, move the body and doors to one side spin the car around and zoom in on the chassis details or move the wheels and look at the axles...that kind of thing.

it would help people who don't have Inventor or even know what inventor is to look at concepts made in Inventor and how they work and extra parts could be in the assembly and can be turned on or hidden to substitute other parts until the customer is happy they have the assembly they want and save numerous print outs, PDFs or whatever having to be made and sent back and forward.

Cheers

Have you already take a look at this site?

A360 is cool but needs the ability to remove or move parts from the assembly and back again.

Cheers for that tho!

Do you know about the new 3D PDF functionality in Inventor 2017? It can do everything you've described and all your customer needs as an Adobe PDF viewer. See this video: What's New Video: 3D PDFs

Your customers can also download Inventor View for free and have Assembly viewing capabilities. It's a very rudimentary software but it works. It can be download from here: Autodesk Inventor View

seems pretty good. I was hoping for something a little more interactive; touch screen whiteboard and we could drag and move parts from an assembly in our meetings....maybe too futuristic?

Closest I've seen to that is the Hold (and to a lesser extent, Transform) options in Navisworks.  The former moves the selected object(s) around with the camera/viewpoint, while the latter provides for direct distance input.

Yeah, free-dragging parts is something even the full version of Inventor isn't great at. But if whatever hardware and OS your touch screen whiteboard is hooked up to is capable of running Inventor View or especially Adobe PDF (which it definitely should be) you should at least be able to use touch to hide and unhide parts, isolate parts, or see where they fit in the assembly with the rest of it "phantomed" out like the demo video shows. You should also be able to tap, for example, the orbit command, and use touch to drag and orbit, or pan, or whatever.

But in general, anything involving touch and 3D modeling is a little futuristic right now, as far as I know. It may become more mainstream in the near future but any touch support is very rudimentary at this point in time, no matter which professional software you use.

Cheers everyone I'll try in Navisworks. well here's to the future and the crazy I hope I get something close to what I think would be awesome!
