Assembly Tree Sort Error

Assembly Tree Sort Error

Hello. I recently found a problem with how the assembly tree sorts items when "Alpha Sort Component" is used. I have attached a screenshot showing this problem, with the error highlighted.

What seems to happen is that the sort function (*in the assembly tree only) recognizes '100' as a '10-0' number, rather than one above 99. These parts all have the same first digits, with the numbers after the dash denoting the next part number, then a description after the underscore. Everywhere else these parts are sorted, the numbers behave correctly (98, 99, 100, 101, etc).

I'd love to see this fixed in an upcoming update. Thank you!

This is an ongoing battle since Day one of Inventor BOMs.  Every release or so it get's flip flopped and is a Royal PIA and time waster.  This is a never correct format so needs to be an option some how.  Basically you have sorting by Numerical, or by string and string is what I call Computer numerical which counts from left to right which is what we always want a.k.a String sorting.   Only way to fix this is Edit the parts list on the IDW and pick on the Part Lists

Here's and Older Idea Station Entry from 2014-6-26:  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/bill-of-materials/idc-p/4691441#M13298

Which covers your request and even more.  Note there is iLogic that can help you out here.

@mikeh2 , as I noted, I'm seeing this in the assembly tree only. The BOM is fine. Everywhere else I look, sorting is correct.

My apologies - Guess I jumped to a conclusion of what I wanted to see fixed🙄  Your wish and the Parts List and BOM all should be addressed at the same time as they're all directly related.  I'd think users would want all environments to sort the same.

Regards
