Array: with x- and y-coordinates instead of a path

Correct me, if I´m wrong, but when I make an array like this in an assembly, I have to have a diagonal path.

Wouldn´t it be nice to have the option to do this by just entering the x- and y-distances?

(I know that I can make a full array and supress the unwanted elements, but Inventor can do better, can´t it?)

This can be done through an associative pattern based on a sketch-driven pattern.

This is just an example workflow.

(There are many ways to achieve these effects)
