Arranging inventor files by type

Arranging inventor files by type

Hi Idea station,

I would like to see an option where you can right click on all open files to arrange by type like .iam files followed by .ipt and then .idw or any order end user prefers. Just like we have in windows.

Also, I am not sure if it already exists but like Solidworks, I like the idea of modifying parts or models from drawing. i.e., reverse associativity. For example if you realise hole size doesn't align in the assembly drawing, you can modify the hole size in drawing and it reflects back in the part automatically.

Hope these are introduced in 2018 version of inventor.

Thanks and Regards,

Yashasvi Shah

Hi @Anonymous, you can actually currently do "reverse drawing associativity" in Inventor. It works particularly well for simple features like holes and fillets. All you need to do is use the Retrieve Dimension tool to create the dimension on your Drawing.

Neil Cross has a great video demonstrating how this works on his YouTube channel, here: YouTube: Edit a 3D part from the 2D drawing dimensions | Autodesk Inventor. All of his videos are fantastic, but in this one you'll have to forgive the background music, which is a little annoying. Fortunately he stopped doing background music in his later videos

Also, for future reference, it's best not to include two completely separate requests in the same Idea. Now, unfortunately, there's no way to know if someone who voted did so for arranging files by type, or because they liked the idea of reverse drawing associativity.

Hi DRoam n all,

I tried with simple plate with hole and cut. In the drawing there is option to edit model dimensions. Instead of double click on dimension, right click and it comes with an option to edit. Great tool.

Thanks and Regards,

Yash
