Angular Ordinate / Running dimensions

Angular Ordinate / Running dimensions

When producing orientation drawing for tanks etc it gets messy very quickly using conventional angular dimensions. That's why there is a need for angular ordinate dimensions currently I do this using the ordinate dimension then over riding the value then importing the parameter needed so its linked but this is time consuming. Please add

No action was taken by autodesk anyhow :<

Thanks for reviving this, @cbenner. We too build tanks and vessels and are really missing this.

When this is is implemented, we would really like the angular ordinate dimension to also be capable of displaying arclengths. For example:

Angular Ordinate Dimensions 2.png

This would be something we could set up in the Styles, something like this:

Angular Ordinate Dimensions Style.png

When creating an angular ordinate dimension set, Inventor would always finish by asking for a diameter reference to use to calculate the arclengths. Ideally this would be shared by all dimensions in a set but could be overridden for individual dimensions.

@DRoam how do I give this^^^ Kudos!

A shame that this not already is possible in Inventor.

is this added in 2019?

Angle Ordinate Dimensions

+1 This would be really useful! Seem like a pretty easy development too...

One (laborious) work-around is to run the nozzle orientations from 1 sketch in an ipt phantom part. At the end of each nozzle position place parameter text with the value of the rotation (as per screenshot). This sketch can then be  retrieved in the idw.

The main problem with this is that text does not travel through the derive process and I derive almost everything like this... (another thing that would be nice to change)

Cheers,

Almost 2019 and this is still very much needed. All the current work arounds and such are time consuming and having an Angular Ordinate dimensions function is by far the easiest and most effective solution to clearly dimensioning angles in a circular set.

Any idea when we will be able to do a ordinate angular dimension ??

Bump. This is needed asap. A bit ridiculous you still can't do this.

Absolutely ridiculous. Im actually considering switching to Solidworks because of this. Where are you at Autodesk?

+9999 for with option please !

I had to create my own custom add-in to emulate this functionality. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make the dimension value update itself if the component moves (like a regular dimension value does).

If someone knows how to create a custom Dimension Placeholder <DimensionValue>  through the API please let me know.

Almost all our drawings are of "round" objects, like tanks etc. . We  make  drawings for the workshop, to layout different equipment, and the way we do it today is quite laborsome. As we need to use the oposite angle feature + move the degree text to the position. It is important for us to use a global 0° as reference. It would be nice to have a feature like the ordinate set but just for angular dimensioning.

My guess is the opposite angle is their way of allowing you to have ordinate angles without adding the feature. How would you suggest they do it different? I would suggest a way to implement it without adding to the browser too much. My belief is that's why they don't add every idea because they still want the interface to not be over crowded.  Maybe it could be a third option in the ordinate set drop down.

Yes something like that, maybe as a right click option.

Yeah Brian, we need this function.

Just do it exatly like solidworks makes "Angular running dimensions"

I support this idea as well. Had to find a less ideal workaround. This would make it way easier
