Currently, Cable & Harness cannot be edited when the harness assembly is nested inside a higher-level assembly. Even when editing the subassembly in-place, Inventor disables all Cable & Harness operations.
This limitation makes top‑down design very difficult, since harness routing and length are often defined by the final assembly context.
A possible improvement could be:
- Allow editing Cable & Harness while the subassembly is active in-place
- Or allow harnesses to reference top-level geometry, such as 3D sketches, work points, or routing guides
Even a solution where the harness path is guided by geometry defined at the top-level assembly would already solve most use cases.
This would greatly improve Cable & Harness usability in complex and modular assemblies.
