Additional Filter

Additional Filter

I have this issue on attaching balloon that I need to scroll down which I think a bit time consuming. Especially if we have a thousands of parts to scroll.

I hope the developer add a filter that will only show the parts that is only visible on that view (Items visible on the present view representation)

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

You can do that folowing these steps:

1. Create a design view representation in which you toogle of the visibility for the parts that you don't need.

For example: let's say you have an bolted assembly from witch you want to extract/baloon all the bolts, nuts and washers. You need to create a design view representation where you toogle of the visibility for all the other parts except the bolts, nuts and washers.

2. Open a new drawing and place the drawinv view.  Choose the desired drawing view representation (Bolts Nuts Washers in our example) as seen below.

3. Insert a part list and follow the steps: right cklick on the part list and select "Edit Part List" -> click on "Filter Settings"

Then from the "Define Filter Item" drop down menu select "Assembly View Representation"

From the new drop down menu where the desing view representations show up select de desired representation (Bolts Nuts Washers)

And then check the "Limit QTY to visible components only" option and click OK.

4. Returning to the drawing the only parts that are present in the part list (and that you can attach ballon to) are the ones that are visible in the design view representation that you created (in this case Bolts Nuts Washers)

I hope this helped and that I understood your problem correctly.

Have a nice day!

If the part you are trying to balloon is visible in the view, why are you using "Attach balloon from list"?  When the part is visible, you can just use "Attach balloon", and click the part in the view, without seeing the list at all.

The main reason to use the "Attach balloon from list" option is for cases where the part isn't visible.  Filtering the list by what is visible makes it totally redundant with a method that already exists and would still be faster than the filtered list.

@jtylerbc Thank you for taking your time to answer my issue. Regarding that, the item that I want to balloon is hidden. We commonly hide nut-bolt connections to simplify the 2D drawings.

@razvan-campian Thank you for your effort to come up to a possible solution. Regarding to your solutions, this will only work on part list table. What I want is to balloon an item which is invisible (We tend to hide especially nut-bolt connections to simplify the 2D drawings) by using "attach balloon from the list". But if you have thousand parts, you will need to scroll down to look for that specific part. What I want is an additional filter like you mentioned in your solution.

@Kent_Adoniram,

If the parts that you want to attach balloons for are hidden, how would this feature help you at all?  Your original post said the following (I bolded a section for emphasis):

If you tend to hide bolt & nut connections, then they would be invisible on the "present view representation", so they wouldn't be in your filtered list as you originally described it.  Would you need to be able to select a specific View Representation where the bolts are visible, instead of it using the one currently applied to the view?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that we are creating a view representation that includes all the parts that we want to see on the part list table. To further filter out other parts we add another filter which is the "balloon items only".
Basically, we manually hide the bolt-nuts on the drawings

I see.  That changes what I thought you were doing quite a bit.

In that case I don't see much of a way that you could improve what you're doing with the existing tools in Inventor, which is what I was trying to do.  You would need some sort of View Representation-based filter for the "Attach Balloon from List".  But it would probably need to be selectable, rather than following the representation used in the view, so you could make sure it was the same representation you were using to filter the parts list (which may or may not be the same as the one used in the view.

@jtylerbc "If the part you are trying to balloon is visible in the view, why are you using "Attach balloon from list"?"

FYI, I use this workflow for groups of things like bolted connections a lot actually. But the thing is I'm adding multiple balloons in one operation by simply checking the boxes, instead of Right click, attach balloon, click (washer), right click, attach balloon, click(lock washer), right click, attach balloon, click(nut). Though I do believe I saw something about Inv2023 improving the process of adding multiple balloons without the list, I haven't been able to upgrade yet.
