Adding Drill sizes to the Hole Command

Adding Drill sizes to the Hole Command

Add a selection box to the hole command that allows the selection of a specific hole size based on a drill size.

Drill sets are available in fraction, number & letter and metric.  It is common practice to specify on a drawing the drill size to use for a particular hole.

When dimensioning an imperial drawing with a hole that is 0.1575" the practice is to specify a 4mm drill.  This makes life much easier for the person interpreting the drawing.

Well - BS888 recommends that the specification (drawing) defines the part you would like to recive - not the method of manufacture.

The Inventor hole tool allows you to specify holes as M8 clearance fit (for example). Is that ok?

The clearance hole option in the hole tool is almost there.  In IV 2014, it lets me specify the hole by a combination of fastener size and clearance dimension (close, normal, loose) but it does not allow me to select a "Q" sized bit.

I like this idea because it lets me specify a hole that will be made with commercially available tooling.  It would be nice if the size selection dropdown listed the actual hole size in the document units as well as the common name (#97-0.0059", #96-0.0063", etc)

Solidworks' Hole Wizard has had this for years.  I agree with @swalton.  For Simple Holes please add a preloaded drop down menu of all english and metric drill sizes and the option (a checkbox in Solidworks) to display the corresponding decimal value, e.g. #21 - 0.1590, F, - 0.2570, and 5/64 - 0.0781.  I really have to print off a drill size chart and hang it up to manually enter drill sizes now?

I frequently wish I had a common drill size drop down menu for the 'Simple Hole' Type.  This feature could work like the Threads drop down lists which work nicely.
