When working with Inventor and dimension a sketch or drawing a sketch there is a huge lag. I have Windows 8.1 and Inventor 2015, I have a Nvidia Ge Force GT 755M Video Card, I have 16 GB of RAM, and my processor is Intel Core i7 at 2.40 I have two hard drive both at 1 TB. What can cause Inventor to work so poorly? I'm teaching a class and using Inventor so if anyone could Help I would be greatly appreciative. todd_benz@pittsford.monroe.edu

Welcome to the community...

Have you applied any updates or service packs to your installation?  If not I would at least put on service pack 2...http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-in...

On some mobile systems, the default is the onboard intel graphics card. Check in the Nvidia control panel (RMB on the screen) and make sure that Inventor is using the Nvidia graphics card.

Also check that any Anti-Virus software has all Inventor files, *.IPT, *.IAM, *.IDW set to exclude these from any scans.

In the system BIOS of your machine, it can also be set to "Quiet" mode which slows down the Hard-Drive (makes it quieter).

Update all system drivers as well as graphics card drivers. Most systems ship with early version drivers.

Blair,

   I was apply to open the NVIDIA control panel but I'm unsure how to check to see if Inventor is using it.

There will be an "Applications" section, make sure that Inventor is using the Nvida graphics card. I am away from my laptop to do a screen capture. Some laptops have a low speed Intel card along with the Nvidia card. The default is to use the Intel card to reduce power consumption.

It should be in the Nvida Control Panel, under the "Manage 3D settings, then the Program Settings Tab, you will need to locate the Inventor and add Inventor.exe to the list to use the Nvida Graphics card.

I had to do this on my Alienware laptop for both Showcase, Inventor and Simulation Mechanical.

@blair

How can I do That?

"Also check that any Anti-Virus software has all Inventor files, *.IPT, *.IAM, *.IDW set to exclude these from any scans"

 I use the Kaspersky anti-virus.

To Exclude, there will be settings within the Options>White Pages/Exclussion List in your A/V software. I don't use Kaspersky so I don't know the exact location but all A/V software will have it.

Kaspersky should have a web support page and if you search "exlude files", that should get you the exact information you require.
