Why is punch tools so manual and hostile towards beginners?

So i select the face and i put down a centermark.  Then i select the punch tool button and get this menu.

Allright cool you might think, it got a few defaults within default folder or something, but none is seen in menu so you click browse, and tada.. you end up in a random folder.. with no punch tool presets.

And i have tried to make punch tools before, its horrible.

So if you got a chunk of punch tool defaults lying around and do not mind sharing them i would love to get going. As i get familiar with punch tools i will hopefully learn over time how they are built.

If you want spesifics i am just trying to punch down a face for a rivnut so a component can go past and the rivnut can be within that sliding face.

Hi!

The punches are in a default folder.

Probably you use one punch from another folder and this location stood in memory.

The default location is:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2023\Catalog\Punches\

If you need a punch, design the geometry in a part and share it here. we try to help to turn the geometry into a punch.

@MatsNorway1

Check under Application Options\iFeature\Punch Tools. Can you share a picture of what is in this path?

So you need a hole and emboss.

Model that and you can make it iFeature or Punch.

Did you copy the files in the original iFeature\Punches folder?

Well, with no files in there and you expect to find something in an empty folder? 🙄

The folder setup in your IV is not default installation location.

User or Admin need to copy the correct files there.

I have not tried to use punch tools in months perhaps a year. If its that hostile towards its users its not good.

I am the user, i have admin rights. I can/could fix this with a tutorial that makes sense. If i get the time.

Summary: Punch tool is bad, and everyone hates Fusion 360 for mechanical design

Inventor>Fusion 360 (according to seemingly every user that has done work or done studies using both)

Hmmm, you need tutorial to copy files from one folder to another? 🤔

Someone (user or admin) set a new folder location for the Punch (iFeature) and did not copy the required files.

Of course you can create new punches.

I made a few already.

Also some SAE ports.
