I am a new user to InventorCAM. A pop came along and said "download new user guide". It even has examples to show how it works. So InventorCAM turns out to be a licensed version of SolidCAM from SolidWorks. Inventor won't open the CAD examples because they are .sldprt files. In other words, this new user cant see the new user guide in action for InventorCAM from Autodesk. Shouldnt the tutorial files be Inventor format files or at least generic cad models?

This is a private company's CAM application that will work, as claimed by the website, with SolidWorks and Inventor models.  Autodesk Inventor CAM package is HSW and is integrated directly in Inventor and is a different product.  As to your statement that Inventor will not open SolidWorks files, this is not true.  Inventor will open SolidWorks files, simply select them in the Open Command dialog box.

I too suggest you use Inventor HSM (There is a paid and free version.. Full blown HSM is included in the product design collections,etc... lots of options there).. That is Autodesks CAM program that directly integrates into Inventor..

Many CAM programs (and many other CAD program addins) were originally developed for Solidworks as it seems to get more 3rd party support than Inventor..

And yes... InventorCAM should have tutorials using Inventor files..

But use Inventor HSM instead..

As stated InventorCAM is not owned by Autodesk like InventorHSM is..

Thanks for the light. Inventor does indeed open Native SolidWorks formats!! Yay! But the Attached InventorCAM file that were part of the training download do not open in InventorCAM. Wow. I thought they were Solidworks related files but apparently not.  Not sure where to go to get the tutorial working.
