VIEWING DRAWINGS

Hi,

I run Autocad but not Inventer and have been sent some inventer IDW drg,s. I therefor need to download a viewer, but without knowing what year the Inventer program was, not certain what viewer to download. I tried 2015 but that would not load on my pc.

If they are Inventor IDW's files and they only sent you the IDW files you won't be able to do anything. Your best bet is to have them send you DWG files exported out of Inventor to the year version of DWG you can open.

AutoCad uses a flat file with all the related information stored within the DWG file. True Inventor files such as IDW's files require all the related part and assembly files to be able to open an Inventor IDW drawing file.

Not entirely true, Blair.  It's best to have the model files, but Inventor drawing files will open without the parent present (with warnings about lost links).

Thanks,

What version of DWG are they saved in? Is the file version newer than the version of ACAD?
