ViewCube "Set current view as" doesn't cross over into Drawing when placing view

Hello all,

I am trying to speed up some of my day to day operations and need some help. Every time I place a new View in my Details, the object is always orientated incorrectly and needs spun (2-3 clicks). I found if I use the X/Y Plane as my "Front" in the ViewCube the View comes in naturally facing the right way, but I have many complex ipt. template file that would take hours to switch the planes. I tried "Set current view as" in the ipt., but when placing the view in my details the Cube doesn't match the ipt anymore.

I've attached a few images to try and show what I mean. Capture-1 is the ipt. showing I overrode in the ViewCube (Front is facing front). Capture-2 Shows the View when being placed (notice Front is no longer the same as Capture-1). Capture-3 is after Custom View Orientation.

Any help would be much appreciated!

"set current view as" has no effect on drawings as you have found..

Nothing can be done to change that..AFAIK..

You can adjust going forward though...

Not really.. Ones needs in the modeling environment might be totally different in a drawing environment..

I believe that this actually is possible, but it's in such an obscure place that it is very easy to come to the conclusion that it doesn't exist.  In fact, before writing this, I spent a bit of time rummaging around because even though I knew I had seen it before, it wasn't where I thought.  I expected it to be in Application Options - Drawing or Document Settings.  Turns out it was in neither of those places.  I was about to give up and assume that either the feature was removed at some point, or I've lost a few marbles.  Then I remembered that there was a third place I hadn't looked yet.

• Open the Styles and Standards Editor (from the Manage tab on the ribbon).
• In the Standard section at the top of the browser, select your active standard (which should be shown with its name in bold).
• Click the View Preferences tab.
• In the lower right, there is a dropdown list titled "Front View Plane."  One of the options here is "From Model."  I think that will get you what you are looking for.

Perfect! I will have to go back through a bunch of my files now and re-select the face I want, but this will work much better. Thanks!!!!

I have been tolerating this model-drawing ViewCube setting disconnect for a long time.

I had searched in the past, but never found a solution.

Searched again today and discovered this thread. Awesome!! Thanks for sharing this info.
