ViewCube - Disable Inactive State

Is it possible to never make the ViewCube inactive? When I am constraining objects, the ViewCube sometimes becomes inactive and uninteractable. When this takes place, it causes me to have to cancel out of my operation, click near the ViewCube to first re-activate it, then change view, and then reopen the constrain menu. If I don't exit out of the operation first, it will just select any object/face behind the ViewCube which is frustrating.

I want the view cube to always be active. I don't see anything in application Options or ViewCube Options for this.

There are never any moments where making it permanently active would cause issues for me.

Change opacity to non Zero:

It was set to 50% already, here are my settings:

The issue i am having is not that the viewcube is invisible, but the cube does nothing in its inactive state, i cant interact with it while in some operations.

Need to move mouse pointer to cube to activate it.

Which operation doesn't work?

What are you doing with the cube in command?

Yes, I am aware. As stated in the original post, when I am doing some operations, main one being constrain in assemblies, the view cube will be permanently disabled. When I move my cursor to it, it doesn't activate. It stays inactive while my mouse is near it. I am trying to use the view cube to change my view.

This is not a easily replicatable bug, it doesn't happen 100% of the time. I want the view cube to be permanently active.

Don't think there is a setting for that.

It could be a bug.

Take screenshot showing the command/dialog box when it happen and contact support, or Johnson.

You can use Middle Mouse Button to change view:

I use 3D mouse to Rotate, Pan, Zoom.  So I don't use the View Cube much.

Hi! The ViewCube should always be active. I am not aware of a workflow allowing ViewCube to stay still. Is the model extremely large? Please measure the distance between the origin to a vertex of the model. How far is it?

Many thanks!

The assembly file has a max distance from center point of 98.8401 in / 2510.5389 mm

Hi! Then it is well within the valid model range. It should just work. Are you able to reproduce the inactive ViewCube behavior? Please share the files and steps with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

At the moment, I do not know a way to replicate the bug. I will pay attention to it more when it happens next, and report my findings back here.

My only lead currently is during the constrain operation.

Hi John,

I found a way to replicate this issue 100% of the time on my computer.

Versions:

Inventor Professional 2024

Build 272

Release 2024.2

Inventor CAM Ultimate 2024

Build 11.1.0.21535

Vault Client Basic 2024

Build 29.2.88.0

2024.2 Update

Make a new assembly, and import a part, "Drag" the part (not "Pan"). Now the ViewCube is inactive until you click in the graphics window.

In my case where it caused the issue today:

-I placed a part (a machine table to represent a machining setup, like in my previous reply with the table and angle plates)

-I constrained this part using origin planes, leaving 2 Degrees of Freedom, as the part was not in the correct orientation initially

-I dragged the part while zoomed in to position for final constraining

-I went to change my view to line up the placed parts prior to constraining, but it was at this moment I noticed the ViewCube was inactive.

I opened a new assembly and confirmed the place operation itself does not cause the ViewCube to become inactive.

Since dragging seems to cause some sort of issue with the graphics window, maybe one of the developers could look into this interaction and find any other potential causes outside of drag.

--note: i was unable to replicate by using constrains, pan, free move, or free rotate, only drag.

Something else I've noticed:

While using "Drag", the default command for when you hold left click on a part in an assembly, the bottom left information box says "Drag component to new location" while "Free Move" also says "Drag component to new location" even though the operations seem to function differently. Given that Drag and Free Move are unable to produce the same result above.

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the findings! Dragging a component in the graphics window triggers dynamic solve. I guess there was an assumption that the solve could be compute intensive so that the graphics operation is disabled until the solve is complete.

Free Move is different. It moves the selected component without solving the constraint dynamically. You will need to click the update button or edit a constraint or add a new constraint to solve the assembly.
