In regards to assemblies:My small assembly contains about 30 separate parts and all in a dark blue color.I want to make the same assembly the color Green and another the color Black.

Do i follow the following steps

1. Do i RMB on View:Master and select NEW

2. Select all the parts and change to desired color

Have i missed anything

Regards

Make sure it is design view representations you are using and NOT level of detail.

Make sure the new rep is active when you select the parts to colour.

Then make another new rep, set active and change the colours again.

You need to have one rep for each colour.

You can also rename the rep to match the colour for ease of recognition.

These reps can then be selected in higher assemblies to give the colour you choose, you will also need reps in the higher assembly to hold the chosen colour rep.

Drawings also use the reps for views and for driving part list filters.

Really it depends.. Should each color variation of each part have a separate part number?

Or is the whole assembly painted after it is all assembled?

I made up a quick example of a assembly and created 1 in Blue and 1 in Black.I named 1 view as Blue and 1 view as Black...I just then select the color view i want and activate and the color works. If this is the correct way you explained then i can go ahead and do this to my assemblies

You didn't answer these questions

1-Should each color variation of each part have a separate part number?

2-Or is the whole assembly painted after it is all assembled?

Nevermind.. I see you are a student and buying/stocking/inventory is probably not a concern of yours.. So then yes.. The example you posted is correct for this situation.
