Vaulted styles mismatch on client machine.

andrewdroth

My templates and styles are vaulted.

When I create a new drawing on my machine that hosts the vault server I do not get a style mismatch warning.

I've checked in both the styles folder and template folders (same ones listed in the vault project folder options) using the task scheduler.

On my client machine (same vault project and folder set-up) when I create a new drawing using one of the vaulted templates I get a style mismatch warning.

What could I be missing here? Seems to me all the files/styles should be identical.

When I save to 'style library' is there a chance that it isn't looking to the folder listed in the vault options?

It seems I overlooked a little detail when I set this up. I can't use the Task Scheduler to push updated versions of the styles to the Vault since they are not inventor files...

Is there any way to sync non-vault files in Vault Basic, I don't even know how to manually update the vault version now.

Well I deleted the local copy on the client machine, deleted the vault copies of the template and styles.

Added the files back onto the vault (these have to be the ones used on the server machine now)

Do a get on the client machine, and I still have the style conflict.

I feel like I'm going crazy.

@andrewdroth

What is the location for your "Templates" AND "Design Data (Styles, etc.)" in the project file on each computer? (In the "folder options" section of the project file)

Sounds like you either have different locations for one or the other or those files are not the same in both locations.

Remember there are a few copies of "Style" in Inventor.

All of them need to be "sync" to remove the "mismatch error.

Vault or not.

First the style library in Design Data.

Second the style in each template file.

Third style in "old" files.

Forth a copy in Vault.

Are the client using same project as other?  So it get Design Data from same location?

Once client Get all the files from Vault, it will be the same.  Unless the Project point to different folder.

Hence I put everything under one folder and every computer use the same folder structure and project.

What is your setup?

Where do you store all the files?

Everyone use same project?

Same vault project file, both pointing to the vaulted folders for styles and templates.

"Default" in Project or got a specific path?

Check System option for where the "Default" are.

Also, what was mismatched?  Style or Material?

I'm going to tru and document this issue better when I get home.

But the vault project style and template file paths point to folders under the vault root, but above the /designs working folder.

The mismatch is two styles between the template and style library. Only on the client machine.

My best guess is I'm not getting the current styles from the server machine to the client machine, but I cant figure out were I've gone wrong.

Also check this:

File.jpg

Edit Template in Vault and add custom property.

So you'll know if you didn't open the correct Template.

OK, I've approached this as logically as I can think, and I'm dumbfounded.

I've added text to the drawing template file, checked it in from the server side.

Open it on the client end, test is there. Perfect, that's the correct version.

Now to get the proper style file on the client machine.

Currently the style locations in application options and vault folder options don't match, and that's fine. It should always use the vault settings. But to be sure I zipped both 'Design Data' folders and uploaded them to my google drive.

On the client machine, I renamed the 'Design Data' folders to '_OLD_Design Data' and copied the folders from the server machine to these locations one at a  time. I first checked it by copying the folder the applications options points to, still have conflict. I then changed the vault location folder, still have conflict.

I'm at a loss. these have to be the same files now, no vault 'check-in/get' issues could be at play.

How am I getting this error?
style library.PNG

It doesn't mention any file locations or xml file names, so how do I track this down?

If you rename the Design Data folder, would IV complain missing Style?

If not, IV is using another copy.

Does your Project point to a location ie D:\xxxxx or Default?

Default means use Application Option locations.

The mismatch is the Standard.

Did you copy files manually?

Or use Vault "Get File"?

I'll try renaming them and see which it complains about.

Vault points to d:\...

This time manually, last time with vault.

Now more weirdness. When I make a new drawing with the template with added text on the server the text is present on the new drawing. When I make a new drawing with the template on the client machine, the text is missing. But if I open the template on the client machine, the text is there....

Man this is wild. I can see the text in the template preview.

So I went back to the server machine, changed it again, and checked it in again. Did a get on the client, now I can create a new drawing and the text shows up...

Still have the style issue though.

I renamed the 'design data' folder in the vault location and when I tried to create a new drawing I get a warning that it cannot find any of the XML files. So that is where it's looking.

I tried the same thing with the design data in the application options, and it didn't care.

I don't think so, no "3da"and it's a drawing template.

Hi Andrew,

Are you able to reproduce the behavior using the \Design Data\ and the templates? If yes, please send those files to me directly ([email protected]). Let me take a look. Make sure the user has install the applicable updates.

Many thanks!

I don't think I can reproduce this, I can't figure out which files are the problem.

Double check all folder names and file names carefully.

Are your templates named "Standard.ipt". "Standard.iam" etc?

If not, save one with that name and set them as default template.

Some IV command default to use them.

Export setting from a working computer to the not working computer.

Copy the project file too.

To replace Design Data in Vault, delete it from Vault and add it again.

When I first got Vault, I was deleting everything a few times to test folder structure.

@Frederick_Law Thank you for sticking with me on this one!

I've checked the file paths religiously, I'm certain they are the same.

The template & the conflicting style are both named "Company Name".

I have copied both the template and design data folder from the working computer by both deleting vaulted versions, adding them and checking out and by copying the files manually.

The only file I didn't copy manually yet is the project file itself. I'll try that now.
