V-Roll with Bend

Hello, I require to do the following part in sheet metal:

It is a v-rolled sheet with extensions on one edge, which are bent by hand after the v-rolling.

To draw this I did a Control Roll to the required dimensions, Unfold the sheet, Cut the excess part for the extensions, use Fold to bend the extensions and finally Refold.

 

The issue I am having is that upon creating a flat pattern the extensions are still bent.

Is there any way to resolve this issue?

Yes-- make the angle part of your Contour Roll feature instead of a separate fold in the unfolded state.  See attached 2023 file.

Hi Mustun,

I can't view Sam's file unfortunately. But just in case - here is my version of the model. In IV2020 format.
You have to keep in mind that while the Flat Pattern is correct (the tabs' sides are parallel to each other) - the folded model itself is not reflecting it. If that's not an issue - the attached model should work for your needs. If it is an issue - some extra modelling efforts will be needed.

I just realised that I could Unfold even though that the Contour Roll was at an angle. Change my way of thinking about these.

Hello again,
I found out that the flat pattern is not matching the estimated calculated value.

If we take for example @IgorMir 's attached file:
The outer diameter of cylindrical part is 500mm.
The thickness is 3mm.
The estimated developed flat pattern should be = (500-3)*PI = 1561mm long.

But the flat pattern created by Inventor is 1635mm long, 74mm difference.

What could this difference be caused by?

This probably needs someone from Autodesk ( @johnsonshiue ) to give the definitive answer, but I suspect that it is calculating the neutral axis based on the whole part, so quite a bit larger than the base diameter.  If you change the tabs to bend inwards I would expect the flattened length to be considerably less than the base circumference.

 

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that Inventor isn't going to allow you to model and flat-pattern this piece very accurately.

There is one more way of doing it. Please see the attached IV2020 file. But either way - there are some trade offs present.
