Using Vault 2015 with Inventor 2017

Just a quick question.

Is it possible to use Vault 2015 with Inventor 2017?

As this would save us an costly server upgrade.

Vault must always be the same version year as Inventor, or one year newer.

Since Vault 2015 or 2015 R2, Vault version can be 2 versions ahead of your CAD package.

Don't tell my boss that or we will be on 2015 even longer than we are on 2012.

Our IT folks are supposed to have our 2015 Vault installed this weekend, so we can finally move forward from 2012.

Hi Mark,

I have Vault basic 2015 and Inventor Pro 2017.

Are those two compatible? Inventor 2017 doesn't seem to 'see' vault 2015..

Did you actual read @mpatchus accepted solution/reply.. 

No Vault must be the same version as CAD or up to 2 newer versions than your CAD version..  For example Vault 2017 will work with Inventor 2015, 2016, and 2017..

Vault 2015 will not work with Inventor 2017..

Thanks for the prompt reply!
The only reason I questioned the response was because in my pc Inventor 2017 appears to be unaware of Vault 2015. 😕

I can open a file from the Vault into Inv 2017, but the ribbon doesn't have the option to check the vault, and I cannot make a workspace compatible to it. 

Sorry for the confusion, I somehow have missed something minor it seems.

Yes that's possible of getting a file out of Vault 2015 and then opening it manually with Inventor 2017.  But I will warn you...  You could destroy the parent to child relationship of a Inventor assembly file when you go to place the files back into Vault.  Not saying it will happen but you run that risk.  So why take that risk with your "live" data.
