Using .obj mesh from face-scan app to cut a shape out of a regular solid.

Hello all,

I have been trying to use Inventor 2020 to model a 3d printable face mask using a 3d scan of my face. So far, without success. I have mainly used the sketch/extrude/revolve/fillets/emboss functions up until now. I have no experience with curved surfaces like the face model and find it hard to find some clear tutorials.

What I have been trying to do, is use the face object (app outputs a .obj file) to cut off the square beam (and delete/cut the part behind the face). I have installed the Mesh Enabler to convert the mesh into a base object (2nd screenshot). But it did not really help.

Then I tried to extrude every single triangle in the mesh, but that was also a dead end (errors).

Could anyone point me in the right direction?  Thanks in advance!

Hi! Inventor has limited mesh handling workflow. The mesh data you are trying to leverage looks rather coarse. If you print it as such, the face would look faceted. It would not look nice. Any organic geometry requires less precision is not suitable to model in Inventor.

Could you tell me what exactly you are trying to do with the face in Inventor?

Many thanks!
