Urgent Help needed - New to inventor Design won't mirror anymore

Hi, how are you all?

I am having an issue with mirroring a part. It was working prior to me adding a new sketch was just doing some touch ups. so deleted the old mirror to create a new mirror so the new sketch would be viable as it was after the mirror in the model list. I was trying to see if there was a way to move items in the list but couldn't figure that out. so I have been deleting the mirror and re-doing it after I add a new sketch.

So now when I click mirror and click on the plane, it will not let me press ok to submit the mirror.

You probably want to be mirroring the part in the assembly rather than the bodies in the part, but either way I can't see a plane in there that you're using to mirror.  I made one in the middle of that back board and it works ok...

I'm using Inventor 2018 so if I save and attach you won't be able to see the features.  Is that what you're trying to achieve though?

yes, that's exactly what I am trying to do, I was just mirroring the face, I did learn about how to add a plane which I did try and still didn't change the outcome.

why is my program trying to stress me out?!

so there was no errors or any issues, it just worked?

is there no way you could send me that part and I can then add it to the assembly? or will it not work as you said you have 2018 and I have 2016?

See attached.

In the first picture I used a plane half way between the back board, this time I used the end face of the back board, either way it seems to be just fine?

Hi! I must be missing something here. Is the question about Ok button not enabled in Mirror dialog? If yes, it is because the body is not selected so there is nothing to mirror. I don't understand why you have to delete mirror and recreate it after change in upstream sketch or feature.

Many thanks!

I was adding a new sketch to the part. and on the sidebar where all the sketching and extrusions are running down the list, any new sketches get put after the mirror. So I was deleting the mirror and then redoing the mirror after I added a new sketch.

This is not my industry as it is the 3rd time I have ever tried using this program, let alone having no experience prior.

I don't work with computers other than for music, gaming, Netflix. so this is a big adjustment for me, so haven't figured out everything and the best ways to make things work. but trying.

I really do appreciate the help! thank you both for responding so quickly.

back to the question of selecting the plane or face, I am, and it still isn't working I have tried multiple buttons and faces and different things to try to make it work anywhere and it's not working all of a sudden. And since I don't have time to diagnose the situation myself I thought I would come here and ask. as I do try to do as much research as possible. I'm presenting the design to a client tomorrow.

Its really weird, maybe just glitching? thinking I may try to save this as a new file, and going back to the original if I go back in the history far enough that I can bring it back to working and try again.

now is there a way you can move sketches or the Mirror in the list on the left side, to a lower position so that there are no items past it. as when its in the list that way it doesn't mirror any sketches added to the list that come after it. or should it be doing it and for some reason, it just might not be updating the part in real time, and if I waited longer it would or re-opened the file it then would be mirrored? I'm just speculating possibilities. I just know glitches and things sometimes can happen like that.

New features are added to immediately before the End of Part marker, so the secret to adding new features before the end is to slide the EOP marker to the location in the feature history where you want them placed.

This makes sense if you think about it-- you need the model to be in the condition of that point in the history when you create the new feature.

It is possible to move features up and down in the model history, but they can only be moved where they logically make sense; a feature can't go above anything upon which it depends, or below something which depends on it.

thanks, Yeah that makes sense.

I tried moving the mirror before but it wouldn't move.

I ended up just getting it to work, I restarted the computer and still didn't work then I saved as a new file, and opened it up and it ended up working tried it again on the original file and still wouldn't work. So unless I changed a setting or something somewhere. I don't see how but yeah usually things happen for a reason. just can't figure out why.

thank you everyone so much. greatly appreciated.

I got a lot to learn, but loving the program and I can say the community around it seems to be really great too.

Thanks
